CATCH YOUR FIRST FISH
Bring a fishing rod and, optionally, fish bait. Use the bait from your inventory while carrying the rod to attach it; this consumes one bait item. Use the rod to begin fishing. You cannot start while seated in a vehicle.
Fish offshore while standing out of the water, for example on a boat deck. If fishing stops as soon as it begins, move farther offshore and stand on a dry deck: standing in the water can interrupt fishing.
A bite occurs on a random 20–44-second interval. The notification asks for Num 4, Num 5, Num 6, Num 7, Num 8 or Num 9. Press the requested numpad key promptly; a wrong key or a missed response lets the fish escape. Press X to stop fishing.
Without bait, an ordinary catch gives 1–3 fish units. Fish bait raises that range to 1–5. Fishing skill can add another unit, and catches have a chance to improve the skill. There is also a small chance to find jewelry instead. A large catch can strip the bait or break a baited rod, so carry replacements.
BOAT RENTALS
The rental points offer boats for reaching fishing areas. Travel to your spot, then leave the vehicle seat before starting to fish. Carry enough supplies for the return journey. Water transport.
TURTLE AND SHARK BAIT
Use turtle bait while carrying a rod to try for turtles. Most catches are still ordinary fish; the special catch is not guaranteed. Using a turtle from your inventory attaches it as shark bait and consumes the turtle. Shark bait can produce larger ordinary catches as well as a rare shark.
The game identifies turtles and sharks as endangered, illegal possessions. They have separate buyers. Shark fishing can break the rod, and catching a shark also spawns a shark beside you, so leave space and be prepared for the encounter.
SELL YOUR CATCH
The fish buyer is on the west coast near the fishing boat rentals; turtles and sharks have separate northern buyers. Enter the buyer marker with the correct catch. Sales repeat automatically about every four seconds while you remain within three metres; step away to stop.
Fish sell five units at a time, so fewer than five cannot be sold there. Turtles and sharks sell one at a time.
These buyers also consume marked money when you carry it. With enough marked money, a sale removes five times its base payout in marked money and doubles the cash payment. Keep that automatic exchange in mind before entering the marker.
